Text Box:   acupuncture
  At Mont Albert Acupuncture we use gentle needle techniques to regulate the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the body to restore health and encourage healing.

  One of the most common questions we are asked is how does inserting needles in the skin help the body heal. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine have been treating people for over 2000 years and the Chinese Medical theory is based on the maintaining a healthy flow of Qi in the body. There are over 350 acupuncture points in the body that connect to different organs and energy channels called meridians. When the Qi becomes excessive, deficient, or the flow of Qi becomes stuck then disease and illness occurs. By inserting fine needles along the body’s meridians, the normal flow of Qi can be encouraged to promote healing.

  There is a very important ancient saying:
“If there is pain there is no free flow;
If there is free flow there is no pain”
  This means that pain arises from the stagnation of Qi and/or blood in the meridians, so by releasing stuck Qi with acupuncture, pain can relieved.

  laser acupuncture
  Laser acupuncture is now available as an needle free option especially for children and those who are needle sensitive. This non-invasive technique employs the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stimulating acupuncture points with a low level laser beam that does not harm the skin.

  cupping
  Cupping is another ancient Chinese practice in which a glass or plastic cup is applied to the skin by suction. In some cases the cup is moved over the skin, releasing tight muscles like a form of massage.
  Cupping works by stimulating various acupuncture points, encouraging blood circulation and removing blood and Qi stagnation, thereby relieving pain.
  Cupping is also a great treatment for coughs, colds, bronchitis and asthma as well as insomnia, soft tissue injuries and pain syndromes.

  moxibustion
  The herb Artemesia Vulgaris is used extensively in Chinese medicine in the practice known as moxibustion. This smouldering herb is placed near the skin to stimulate the flow of Qi and to deeply warm different parts of the body. This is a great treatment for aches, pains and arthritis where symptoms are worse in cold weather.

  dietary therapy
     The idea that food is medicine is an integral part of Chinese Medicine and therefore nutritional advice is an important part of treatment to help correct specific imbalances in the body. Foods are classified according to their thermal effects and energetic properties and are recommended depending on your specific pattern of disharmony. In this way, food can become an important healing force, allowing your body to create an abundance of energy to promote self healing and well being.
